This past week has been a major one for the campaign — and for us! This past Thursday, Oprah hosted the Unite for America 2024 livestream. The event aimed to connect the amazing grassroots groups across the U.S. that have mobilized for Kamala — including us Swifties!

Our co-founder, Irene Kim, was invited to sit front and center in the live audience, and we couldn’t be prouder! When asked for her reflection, Irene said, “Being part of the Unite For America call with Oprah Winfrey and VP Harris was so surreal. It was inspiring to meet so many other organizers and volunteers, and it really reminded me why we started Swifties For Kamala: to connect with and mobilize our communities. It was so joyful to see how many different communities have been coming together to get our first Black woman president into the White House.”

In other news, a recent NBC news poll found that Harris is currently leading Trump nationally 49% to 44%! (Here’s the link to the data for our crosstabs warriors.) While this is great news, it’s always important to remember that polls don’t vote and we have to keep the momentum going. Make sure to keep talking to your friends and family about Kamala and her policies! (This week you can send around Kamala’s WIRED Autocomplete Interview — there’s lots of policy discussion and a few hilarious moments. And a Taylor Swift mention!)

You look like Taylor Swift: This week’s most Taylor Swift-coded campaign moment is… Kamala’s promise to end the filibuster to pass protections for reproductive freedom! Taylor is famous for knocking down any walls in her way (and singing about a few of them along the way), and we’re so glad that Kamala has vowed to make crashing through this unnecessary wall a priority in her campaign and for her presidency. It’s been a long time coming…

Since there are approximately 161.4 million workers in the United States, protecting the working class has never been more important. This week we’re shedding some light on the restrictive policies Project 2025 has planned for labor laws and workers.

One proposed issue is allowing more fluidity in labeling contract workers and employees (pg. 591). While employees are typically provided benefits such as healthcare, many contractors are not afforded that same protection. Unions are also attacked consistently in the proposal, including suggestions of interfering with the unionization voting process (pg. 602) to stripping government security organizations like TSA of their union status (pg. 159).

The project also proposes rescinding the Public Student Loan Forgiveness program (pg. 332), which helps repay student loan balances of eligible government and nonprofit employees (pg. 332).

A red graphic with all-white text. The title reads “Trump’s Plan” with a subtitle saying “Project 2025: Labor” Below it is a bullet-point list that reads as follows: Endanger minors by allowing them to work dangerous jobs, jeopardize overtime pay by allowing employers to recalculate hours, and weaken OSHA regulations by excluding, small, first-time, and “non-willful violator” business owners from fines In smaller text beneath that is the sources list which reads as follows: Project 2025, The Guardian, Cap20, and Capital and Main. In the lower right-hand corner is the Swifties for Kamala logo, S4K. In the upper left-hand corner is a grouping of stars in various sizes

Republicans claim to be fighting for workers, but no worker will be out of the woods if any of these proposals come to fruition. So get out and vote!

With Climate Week NYC (it's been waiting for you) happening this week, now is a perfect time to dive into VP Kamala Harris's climate policy..

The story starts when it was hot and it was summer, and in 2005 Harris, then working as San Francisco’s district attorney, set up one of the country’s first environmental justice units. After becoming California’s attorney general in 2010, she continued to work on environmental issues, such as bringing charges against Plains All-American Pipeline for a massive oil spill and kickstarting the investigation into whether ExxonMobil has been misleading about their climate-related risks. (Seemingly related, California sued ExxonMobil and other oil companies last year.) And as a senator, she continued her climate work by co-sponsoring the Green New Deal.

As Vice President, she cast the tie-breaking vote to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which is labeled as the largest investment in climate action in history. If you’re interested in a deeper dive on why climate groups are optimistic about Kamala, give this episode of Crooked Media’s What a Day podcast a listen.

With more than 350 prominent climate advocates endorsing VP Harris, we’re confident that it’ll be anything but a cruel summer with her leading our country.

Oh Carolina (and Maryland) knows why for years they’ve said, “Vote blue!”

North Carolina and Maryland residents, make a fist and make it count — both states have critically important down-ballot races this coming Election Day.

On the left is a blue graphic with the title in white text “NORTH CAROLINA’S GUBERNATORIAL RACE, Josh Stein vs. Mark Robinson”. A vertical white line divides the graphic into two sections. The left section includes a blue-tinted headshot of Attorney General Josh Stein in the bottom left corner. Over the headshot are five bullet point statements in white text which read as follows: Has served as NC’s Attorney General since 2017 (1). Endorsed by current NC Governor Roy Cooper (2). Under his leadership, the NC DOJ identified 16K untested rape kits and has tested nearly 12K of these kits (3), clearing their backlog (4). Has called on Congress to protect access to IVF (5), has filed multiple friend-of-the-court briefs urging the Supreme Court to protect abortion care (6,7), and has vowed to veto any legislation that would criminalize reproductive freedom (8). Urged the U.S. Senate to pass the Equality Act (9) and has condemned attempts to eliminate explicit protections for “gender identity or sexual orientation” in federal grant regulations (10). There is a silver star next to each statement. The right section includes a red-tinted headshot of Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson in the bottom right corner. Over the headshot are five bullet point statements in white text which read as follows: Has served as NC’s Lieutenant Governor since 2021 (11). Has been connected to an online account which posted, “I’m a black NAZI,” and other comments that expressed support for reinstating slavery (12). Has said that “abortion in this country is not about protecting the lives of mothers; it is about convenience…It is about killing the child because you weren’t responsible enough to keep your skirt down or your pants up.” (13). Currently says he supports NC's 12-week abortion ban, with exceptions for rape, incest, and life of mother (14). Previously said “There's no reason anybody anywhere in America should be telling any child about transgenderism, homosexuality, any of that filth” (15). There is a silver star next to each statement. On the right is a blue graphic with the title in white text “THE RACE FOR U.S. SENATE: MARYLAND, Angela Alsobrooks vs. Larry Hogan”. A vertical white line divides the graphic into two sections. The left section includes a blue-tinted headshot of Angela Alsobrooks in the bottom left corner. Over the headshot are six bullet point statements in white text which read as follows: Was elected Prince George’s County Executive in 2018 (16). Vows to co-sponsor the Women’s Health Protection Act and stand against efforts to defund Planned Parenthood (17). Hired the first LGBTQIA+ liaison for Prince George's County to ensure the community’s voices are heard by the local government (18). Supports legislation for universal background checks and an assault weapons ban (19). Supports a $15 federal minimum wage and vows to support the passing of the PRO Act (20), which would protect workers’ right to unionize and bargain for higher wages and better benefits (21). Vows to support the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the Freedom to Vote Act if she is elected (22). There is a silver star next to each statement. The right section includes a red-tinted headshot of former Governor Larry Hogan in the bottom right corner. Over the headshot are four bullet point statements in white text which read as follows: Was the Governor of Maryland from 2015-2023 (23). Was recruited to run for the Senate by Mitch McConnell (24) and is endorsed by former President Donald Trump (25). Claims he will never support restrictions on women’s reproductive freedom (26), but vetoed legislation which would have expanded abortion access in the state (27), denied a request to allocate money toward training abortion providers (28), and declined to sign legislation that would have protected funding for Planned Parenthood (29). Claims he would support universal background checks (30), but vetoed legislation which would have required background checks for people acquiring rifles or shotguns from private sales (31) and refused to sign a bill banning guns without serial numbers (32). Harris economic policy - “I grew up in a middle class ….” Harris housing policy - “My mom was a renter……”. https://x.com/themrhagar/status/1838941484457898353?s=46&t=wVCCpAzAjgQwu2rKEFnY9w
